How would you feel if someone you loved that was locked down in a nursing home died, and you found out later there was a drug, or treatment, that might have saved them? This is happening to our elders across the continent and we need to start asking questions as to why treatments with repurposed medications that have been around for 50 years and are being used in other countries with enormous success are not being used in this country. Treatments that front-line doctors are using in the USA while putting their professional reputations on the line and begging politicians to make these treatments available now.
Thankfully, this virus is rather lame when stacked up against other viruses of the past. To put things in context here are some sobering statistics.
The Spanish flu of 1918-20 killed 50 million which was about 2.36% of the population.
The Hong Kong flu of 1968-killed 1 million people 0.028% of the population of the world at that time which stood at 3.6 billion.
The COVID flu has been “implicated” in the death of 1.8 million people or 0.026% of the population, currently about the same as the Hong Kong flu, a flu we never heard much about when I was a kid. No panic, no quarantining. In fact I recall bobbing for apples with my snotty nosed classmates in Grade 1 that year. Likely why many of us built such good immune systems.
We have come a long way since 1918 and even since 1968. There have been many new drugs brought to market and there is an ever-growing mountain of evidence that shows the current death rate could be much, much lower.
I refer to Dr. Peter McCullough and associates who state, “The drugs that work within the cell and actually reduce viral replication are hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, doxycycline and azithromycin”. “Sadly, in the United States and I know in Australia (add in Canada) this happens all the time, patients get no treatment whatsoever. I think that honestly it’s atrocious.”
Dr. Simone Gold, the lead of a group called America’s Frontline Doctors have been arguing for the use of hydroxychloroquine for over 8 months now.
Dr. José Natalio Redondo, president of the Rescue Group of physicians in the Dominican Republic who successfully use Ivermectin, a drug used safely by humans for intestinal worms more than 30 years, on over 6,000 patients with incredible success. “The advantage of Ivermectin,” Redondo points out, “is that it is a well-known and studied drug because it has been used for in humans and for around 45 years in animals, while around the world a trillion doses are given per year no side effects.”
Dr. Pierre Kory, spokesperson for the Frontline Covid-19 Critical Care Doctors (USA) has pleaded with lawmakers to at least allow trials of Ivermectin to begin. Dr. Kory reminded the committee that, “the elderly and minorities are dying at higher rates than anyone else: The amount of evidence to show that Ivermectin is life-saving and protective is so immense and the drug is so safe...it must be instituted and implemented."
Dr Eli Schwartz of Israel; “Ivermectin is an old and very safe drug known to have antiviral properties as well.”
Australian study found a single ivermectin treatment caused a 5,000-fold reduction in virus after 48 hours in a cell culture. Bolivia and Peru already approved using ivermectin in Covid-19 cases.
“It’s also being used prophylactically in specific cases in Florida and in Egypt to prevent the spread of disease in families.”

So, while countries around the world use safe pharmaceuticals to save lives and recommend to their citizens to boost their immune systems by healthy eating, exercise, Vitamins D, B and C and zinc, our leaders parrot from the same script. It is atrocious as Dr. McCullough points out. As Dr. Kory states, “any further deaths are going to be needless deaths, and I cannot be traumatized by that.”
Why is it that our leaders are allowing people to suffer and die from this virus when treatments are available? I am not sure about you, but my part is not to sit back and do nothing. I am not a scientist, but I have enough common sense to know that if thousands of doctors worldwide are saving lives then we should be as well. Why are we so insistent on waiting for the experimental vaccines to arrive or locking down the Province which creates all sorts of sociological and economic problems? The former being what our current government keeps saying and the latter is the solution promoted by the Opposition. Neither have stated the need for boosting immunity or demanding physicians be allowed to use repurposed drugs.
The biggest question might be, why did the vaccines get fast tracked, skipping normal protocols while studies on existing drugs have been embargoed? (see *5 under references)
Many of the deaths are from outbreaks in seniors’ homes. The fact that they are being denied potential life savings medications is appalling. We can all write letters, make phone calls to our elected representatives, our Prime Minister, Premiers (Governors and Representatives for my US followers). I know I will be. Our elders would do the same for us if the shoe were on the other foot.
